Written in the stars

Caroline and Brian are the only people I know calling each other "bae" in their late 20s and even sounds cool doing it. We also share countless hours in our single years singing show tunes together in my living room. Appropriately, on Caroline's birthday, I sent her this with the message: "It is written in the stars."

Linh and Thom

The bride is one of my best friends in highschool and the groom is one of the top rappers/songwriters in Hanoi. The copy of the invite is a word play to one of his most popular songs, which he sweetly sang live when his future wife walking up the isle. The card is simple but was perfect for this quirky couple. One version was made with their real names, appropriate for the parents' guests. The other used the names they are more widely known to friends and fans.

Minted Wedding Invitation

Submissions for Minted's wedding invitation design challenge. The brief called for elegant design to expand their foiled collection. My inspiration came from an afternoon at Strand Bookstore, where I was completely mesmerized by the vintage book covers.

Jeff and Laura

I commissioned by Jeff and Laura to create the whole stationary set for their wedding. All the type and illustration was drawn digitally from my own sketch and printed on card stock with gold ink. The design incorporates their monograms as well as personal details like the Liberty Bell of Philadelphia, where they built their life together.

Danielle LaPorte's posters

Zeumer Managements

Rebranding of Zeumer Management, model agency based in NYC. To signify the company's new vision, I created a dynamic logo and incorporate this into all of the company digital assets.

"The balance of her solid and exceptional design skills, ability to take direction, while giving genuine creative feedback, made her a fundamental member of the team & a pleasure to work with. Tra’s innovative ideas contributed greatly to our company’s APP, website, and other projects. She was an integral part of the successful launch of the APP ‘M3 Beauty’. Tra consistently delivered work/projects on time and completed diligently." - Alexandra Zeumer, President of Zeumer Management

My Model Management: M3 Beauty App

This app is conceived when I worked with Thomas Zeumer, who discovered and managed some of the world's top supermodels like Heidi Klum, Claudia Schiffer, Eva Herzigova & the likes. We recognized a new generation of entrepreneural models and created an app, that provides the necessary tools for them to take the rein of their own career. I designed the original iOS app, which later became the model for the Andriod app.

re(Visualizing) Propaganda

This project came about as the final assignment for my class Anthropology of Creativity. My initial plan was to do a research on the iconography in communist propaganda posters. However, during my preliminary presentation,  I was struck by the number of blank stares I received from my American classmates. To them, these posters are like foreign language. I came from Vietnam, and grew up surrounded by these images. I learnt to interpret them even from songs I sang in kindergarten and I took it completely for granted. Realizing the differences between the two cultures’ visual knowledge, I got the idea of mixing them together and make the hybrid products readable to both kinds of audience. The powerful effect of the final products took me by surprised. The mixture of the two ideology from opposite ends of the spectrum, capitalism and communism, invokes such irony that can be interpreted in multiple ways.
